More Chinese despotism than American populism? It will be Europe’s suicide

Resisting an American hegemony that is perceived as ridiculous and vulgar has become a path to embracing a far more sophisticated authority: the Chinese Communist Party. While Trump is portrayed as the bully who “threatens the liberal order”, Europe is ceding ground to its biggest systemic rival. We have become a mixture of Vichy France, which collaborated with the Nazis, and the Byzantine Empire, which allied itself with the Ottomans.

US national security strategy – a generous offer to Europe

The perception that no-one in Europe is talking about is that the development President Trump and his staff are worried about has already passed a point of no return. The cost of turning things around is perceived as prohibitive. A turnaround cannot be undertaken unseen. The current regime has no-one but itself to blame. Years of failed policies demand an explanation. And perhaps worst of all: Admitting that it was President Donald Trump who revealed and exposed the disastrous misjudgements and devastating decisions made over decades by European leaders still sitting on their stools is too hard to admit.

The US adds its military might to the scale

The US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, says that Europe should focus on rearmament and get out of the weak position it currently finds itself in. This is a criticism that strikes at Europe’s stance towards Russia. Trump says that only the US can defend Greenland against Russia and China. The media mock the claim, but they overlook the fact that they want full American backing for the war against Russia in Ukraine. Europe fails to see the connection, but the US does—and now Whitaker is reminding them of it.

The Nobel Committee is the epitome of Norwegian wokeness

The Peace Prize has become an anti-Trump-prize. The sitting chairman Jørgen Watne Frydnes said the world is becoming increasingly darker. That is a Norwegian euphemism for Trump destroying the ruled-based world order. When his predecessor Berit Reiss-Andersen commented on TV she said that pluralism and rule of law is the basis for democracy. Another jab at Trump.
